New Website Photo Shoot - David Bates, Personal Trainer

I was pleased to be asked by a friend of mine, David Bates, to provide some photography for his new website. Dave & I used to play football together and Dave has now turned his passion for fitness into his career as a full time (and fully booked) personal trainer. Dave and I have exchanged services in the past so I have experienced some of his workout routines which were superb (and exhausting!).

I often get asked to provide commercial photography shoots for companies having an overhaul on their website and branding, which was the case here, and Dave wanted some fresh images to showcase his workout routines and apparatus. Having seen some videos of his very impressive balancing acts on his Facebook page I was really looking forward to seeing what he was going to be doing on the day.

Many of his exercises are tailored for outdoors use in parks to make use of the space and get a spot of fresh air at the same time.  We arranged to meet at Arnos Park in Bristol and began with Dave attaching some Olympic rings to a tree and demonstrating the various exercises possible.  A lot of the workouts require minimal equipment and use your own body weight to push or pull against which makes it easily portable but also develops great physical strength over the whole body.

One of Dave's clients, Kelly, kindly offered to be the model for some of the exercises which involved being tied to goalposts with huge elastic band used for resistance training, a very painful looking rolling pin for stretching the thigh muscle, reverse sit ups on a bench and press ups with the Olympic rings.  Dave also demonstrated some other core exercises.

The whole time we were being watched by Dave’s trusty sidekick, Ted, his little Yorkshire terrier.  Ted must be the fittest little doggy in the world as he goes with Dave on all his appointments and his days can be crazily long.  As his clients need training sessions at all hours of the day it means Dave is often up at 4.30am and not home until 10.30pm!

There was a wedding party also in the park getting some photos so we had to make sure we weren’t in each other’s shots.  We finished with some profile pics of Dave in front of some beautiful trees with very autumnal red leaves which on a grey day was just the nice splash of colour needed.

If you need to get in shape and would like a fun, varied workout then contact Dave and he’ll be happy to speak to you.  He is based in Bristol but travels the surrounding areas to visit and train his clients at various locations.
